Administrative Complex Spittelmarkt

Administrative Complex Spittelmarkt
Architect: HPP Architekten
Coauthor: Zaha M. Hadid
Address: Beuthstrasse/Seydelstrasse, Berlin, Germany
Project:1990
Completion:1996-98

This is not Zaha! For those who saw the exhibition at the Vienna MAK, it’s a double shock. Investors needed another famous name to lure tenants into the spoiled Berlin. Zaha was aware of this and dealt with the investors accordingly. She was domineering. After the first meeting, where things didn’t go her way, she flew back to London. They took some time to think everything over. They prepared a special plane for her and paid her three quarters of a million for the concept. That’s the only thing that ties her to the building. Stubbornness and obstinacy pay off in certain cases. The project and everything else is the work of HPP Heinrich - Petschnigg & Partner (quite decent office building manufacturers for Germany).
Who knows how the project would have turned out if Zaha had not been removed from the helm right at the beginning. She is known for her expressive designs, and wasting space in office buildings on business is simply not welcomed by developers. Not everyone is ING.
