Inside one of the first completed buildings at the vast Smíchov City redevelopment project, architect Kryštof Blažek has completed the interior of Bánh Mì Makers, a thriving Vietnamese restaurant renowned for its homemade bánh mì baguettes and other specialities based on traditional family recipes.
The entire interior extending from floor to ceiling features a harmonious palette of cream and beige tones paired with bleached ash. These light, earthy shades are enhanced by the warm glow of bespoke pendant lamps designed by studio minio, while two large round tinted mirrors contribute to the inviting atmosphere. The bar area combines travertine stone cladding with a bleached ash countertop. Overhead, perforated metal valances subtly define the boundary between the restaurant and the open kitchen, its shape echoing the outline of the bar. Bench seating backed with low Viennese rattan screens provides a visual balance to the differing floor levels, and fabric valances top the expansive storefront windows. The women’s and men’s restrooms are intentionally bold, showcasing the pink and green hues of the lotus flower.
Several visual elements inspired by traditional Vietnamese motifs are reflected in the interior: stars, lotus flowers, bamboo structures, and basketweave patterns. These stylised details serve as the finishing touches to the fresh, contemporary interior created by studio minio for Bánh Mì Makers.
