Apartment in Letná

Reconstruction of an apartment in a historically protected building from 1938

Apartment in Letná
Project:2016
Completion:01 / 2017
Area:120 m2

The presented apartment is located in Prague 7, in Letná, in a building dating back to 1938. The entire building is a cultural monument, which is reflected in both the common areas and the interiors of the apartments. Original doors and opaxite cladding behind the heating have been preserved, for example.
The overall design concept therefore stems from the preservation of these valuable elements and their suitable enhancement or highlighting.
The apartment has an area of approximately 120 m², and the clients wished for as large a living space as possible. The bedroom thus received minimal space connected by a glass partition with a spacious dressing room.
The design was preceded by a research of historical photographs, which inspired the creation of large glazed doors to the entrance hall. These were originally present in the apartments, so a replica was created, making the entrance hall a space full of light.
The bathroom is designed minimally, using white glossy tiles as a reference to the opaxite cladding behind the heating, with an accent in the shower area where travertine is used, just like in the entrance hall of the building. The floor utilizes the original parquet, which has been unified with a light stain. The same stain is then used on the dining table. The vast majority of the furniture was custom designed and made.
Lighting plays an important role in the interior, referencing the history of the house in terms of materials and, partially, in shape, while giving it a new touch.
