The project involved a complete renovation of an apartment in a Prague building from the late 1930s with an exceptional view of the Vltava River. The goal was to adapt the layout to the needs of a young family while also preserving and enhancing the undeniable qualities of the original interior. Perhaps the only very specific request from the clients was to create storage space for family bicycles.

The entire apartment is conceptually designed with simple and honest materials, with a clear reference to the original era of the building's creation. The main communication axes of the apartment are visually supported by built-in wardrobes made of oak veneer. The wardrobes in the hallway also stand on the dividing line of a polyurethane cast floor and renovated oak parquet. In two instances, the original doors were preserved and renovated, above which light wells were inserted to bring daylight deeper into the layout. The entire apartment features carpenter details made from dark-stained wood, such as custom-designed cabinet handles or the floor panel at the site of the demolished partition.

By removing the partition between the two original rooms, a generous living space was created that fully utilizes the view from the penultimate floor of the building. The kitchen was also moved to this central space, which was originally placed with a servant's room in the separate rear part of the apartment. Thus, the new kitchen dominates the space, and with its dark blue-stained island, natural granite countertop, and oversized handles, it gives the apartment a confident artistic character. The kitchen and living room are functionally connected by a custom-made dining table made of hot-dip galvanized steel and bleached pine plywood.

The cleaned concrete beams converge towards the literally central element of the entire apartment, which is the corner load-bearing column. From a previously problematic area of the project, it has ultimately become perhaps the most striking element, at which the living functions of the main open space meet and which is further supported by the appropriate placement of mirrors and oak veneer.

The original back kitchen room was repurposed as a quiet area for parents. This created a bedroom with a generous storage wall and a walk-in shower separated by glass blocks. The built-in furniture is complemented by designer furnishings from the brand anyz (www.anyz.store), which, with its archetypal shapes, enhances the overall aesthetic expression of the project.
