Casa Bubik

Family house under Čantoryja

Casa Bubik
Collaboration:Katarzyna Bubik
Project:2013
Completion:2014
Area:241 m2

The grassy southern slope beneath the main ridge of the Silesian Beskids with the highest mountain, Čantoryje. A wall of tall tree rows on the northern boundary of the property, a unique panoramic view opening to the east, south, and west.
A small courtyard, a passageway, a barn, an outdoor dog, and no fences.
Visually, the concrete eastern facade of the house facing the neighboring properties is a bit stricter and less accessible than the others, to be clear, yet broken by a wide entrance framed with designed wooden gates.
To the valley, the building shows a friendlier face clad in larch wood. The larch ceiling of the terrace passes through a glass wall into the interior of the central living space and further into all the rooms.
The northern entrance facade with a covered vestibule is inviting but confident, accessible through a small courtyard with a firewood storage located against the western wall of the garage. Concrete facing brickwork intertwines here with wooden cladding on the facade and ceiling.
The garage for two cars forms a separate wing of the building, located on the northern side of the property near the public road perpendicular to the mass of the residential house.
In the covered space between the garage and the house, there is an outdoor kitchen with summer seating.
The roof and the roof gutters are somewhat more massive than originally intended. We took advice from local masters who know the winters here.
The barn serves as a small shed for the lawnmower with a potato cellar and a doghouse for the dog Vipo, and behind it is hidden the air-water heat pump.
A house of many faces, one could say…

Construction
The building's outer structure combines masonry of concrete facing blocks with embedded insulation and concrete masonry with ventilated mineral insulation and larch cladding.
The roof structure consists of a system of wooden truss rafters with connector plates covered with TiZn sheet metal with a weathered finish. Larch windows are fitted with triple glazing. A heating system is installed into the polished concrete floor; during harsh winters or to evoke a feeling of instant warmth, fireplace stoves can be used.
