Cité Scolaire Internationale

Facing the confluent of the Rhône and the Saône, the school complex unfolds along the banks of the Rhône, parallel to the entrance to Gerland Park. It slopes gently from 7 to 3 levels to the South, its curves delimiting the students’ exterior courtyards. The building’s western face overlooking the river is entirely glazed and consists of an atrium 7 meters high and 300 meters long where stairways, walkways, mezzanines, service blocks and interior gardens are placed. This temperate area is entirely open in the summer due to a system of motorised glass louvers. To the East, the building wraps around the “Centre of Life” which regroups spaces common to the three schools (primary, secondary and high school), a “village” covered by a suspended, planted, steel roof structure.

The Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon (CSI), also known as the "Lycée International de Lyon", is a leading international school located in the city of Lyon, France. It provides education combining usual French classes with classes in the second language of the student. The international sections include English, Italian, Spanish, Polish, German and Japanese. The classes are taught from primary level all the way up to the high school diploma, the Baccalaureate, which is available with the International Option (OIB, or "Option Internationale du Baccalauréat"). As in all French lycées, students in the last two years ("première" and "terminale") can choose between an "L" section (literary), an "ES" section (economy and society) and an "S" section (scientific). International students are further able to prepare for the OIB, and take classes in literature, history and geography in their second language. The school building is located on the Rhône and Saône riversides, and is a novelty in terms of architecture per se.
