On the edge of a small village, in close proximity to the forest and with a view of the Šumava horizons, stands a family house that sensitively responds to the character of the landscape. The building is set into sloping terrain, which reduces its visual profile while naturally protecting the lower floor. This has created a tranquil retreat with breathtaking views, providing its residents with ample privacy while allowing immediate contact with nature.
We placed the garage and entrance zone near the access road at a lower level of the property. The residential part is accessible from here via a paved walkway. Its layout is inverted compared to conventions. The lower floor is partially embedded in the terrain and houses a trio of bedrooms with amenities, from which there is direct access to the garden. An internal staircase runs along the eastern wall to the upper floor. Here, an open social space unfolds with glass walls along the entire northern and southern sides, opening the interior towards panoramic views. The high ceiling follows the slope of the roof, giving the space airiness and a generous volume.
The glass walls are complemented by loggias on both longer sides of the house, accessed through sliding doors. The northern loggia faces the forest and transitions into a spacious terrace with outdoor seating, shaded by tall trees. An ideal spot for summer gatherings. The southern loggia naturally protects the interior from summer overheating and provides uninterrupted privacy and breathtaking views of the landscape.
The material solution underscores the character of the building. The lower floor, made of ceramic blocks with earthy plaster, firmly anchors the house to the terrain and creates a sense of stability. The upper floor, clad in titanium zinc sheeting, has a delicate and contemporary appearance. Its metallic sheen reflects the changing skies and gives it a modern character. The interior is styled in light neutral tones, where wood, stone, and fine ceramics create a harmonious environment for everyday life and naturally connect the inhabitants with the surrounding landscape.
