The residential building with shops Eggenberge is named after the district of Eggenberg in Graz, with its unmistakable silhouette. The development is based on traditional block typology from the Wilhelminian era, characterized by enclosing the boundaries of the property while leaving the center open. This creates a clear separation between the noisy city and the calm inner courtyard. The residential part rests on a commercial podium with an area of 3,300 m². The central area, raised by one floor, is planted with deciduous trees and rhododendrons. This small park, which can be used by all residents of the building, also forms the roof of the garages on the ground floor. The surrounding strip of the apartment building creates peaks and valleys. These roof slopes incorporate terraces that provide a quarter of the 149 residential units with intimate outdoor spaces. The apartments are further connected to the city by French windows and spacious balconies. The sculpturally designed building is finished with a warm shade of gray plaster that contrasts with the bronze railing, which sparkles in the sun. In addition to the mixed use of commercial and residential buildings, the urban function of the building is reinforced by a large number of different typologies and sizes of apartments.
