Professor Arto Sipinen is the author of several buildings (IT-Dynamo, Agora building), which have significantly transformed the skyline of the city of Jyväskylä. Sipinen was a student of Aalto, from whom he learned that buildings are created for the landscape, should serve their purpose, and that inner life cannot be confined to a specific shape. Over thirty years, he has designed many buildings for the local university. At the age of 34, he won an architectural competition for the university campus in Jyväskylä. His designs are light and spacious. A hallmark of his work is his fondness for large white bricks. The white color serves as a suitable springboard for art, and the buildings appear complete, even though they may later undergo expansion. In form and scope, his work can be paralleled with Richard Meier.
The fifteen-story Innova is the tallest building in Jyväskylä and one of the most important commercial centers. The triangular plot is located in close proximity to the Travel Centre transport terminal and the Jyväskylä Paviljonki convention center. One of the organizations based in Innova is also the Jyväskylä Science Park, which supports businesses focused on modern technologies and the necessary infrastructure. In addition to office space, the building houses a restaurant, conference halls, recreational areas including a sauna on the top floor, which offers a view of the city.
