The renovation of the boathouses on the Prague embankment attracted significant media attention. After ten years, the capital city of Prague completed their revitalization, creating a space by the Vltava that can live a year-round life. A total of twenty boathouses have come to life, both on Rašín's and Hořejší's embankments. The main and most distinctive feature of the boathouses is the large circular windows, which also serve as entrance doors. The author of this concept is architect Petr Janda.
We also had the opportunity to participate in the furnishing of one of them. The space of boathouse No. 9 has been used by the Prague River Shipping Company for 155 years, and this long tradition could not come to an end. From the supply and storage space, we have designed exhibitions on the history of river shipping in Prague in the newly renovated boathouse No. 9, as well as a small café that can serve people waiting for their cruise.
The exhibition consists of magnetic panels, making it sufficiently flexible and easy to maintain interesting for visitors. The color scheme of boathouse No. 9 is inspired by copper—a material that is inseparably linked to ships and maritime transport. We complement the copper with orange, which enlivens the otherwise minimalist design of the boathouse's space.
