The functionalist (Karel Kuča categorizes it as late constructivist) Church of St. Augustine was built in the form of a basilica with a three-nave structure. The temple is oriented in the northwest-southeast direction, with its southeastern façade facing the central area of Masaryk's Quarter, at Peace Square. In front of the entrance is a flat-roofed columned portico made up of five columns. Above the main entrance is a bronze plaque with the inscription DOMVS DEI PORTA COELI (House of God – Gate of Heaven), flanked by side entrances. The main nave is significantly elevated and is illuminated by tall side windows and a large window in the façade. The two side naves are separated from the main nave by a series of columns and both are ended with chapels: to the right is the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, to the left is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary. The main nave transitions through a slender triumphal arch into a semi-circular presbytery, whose tall windows are adorned with figurative paintings. The interior of the temple is functionally austere. The lower part of the main nave is lined with reddish-brown marble veined with white, while the rest is painted white. In contrast to the white walls, there is a dark brown flat coffered ceiling.
Overall, it consists of a monolithic reinforced concrete skeleton filled with brick masonry. The structure of the roof is supported by steel trusses with a ceiling below. Adjacent to the main nave is a rectangular tower with a height of 37 meters. At a height of 32 meters, there is an accessible outdoor balcony, and in the space above it are the tower clocks. The tower is topped with a 13-meter high spire with a cross.
The decoration of the interior was contributed by Vladimír Fischer (the pulpit including a brass gate, brass crosses and a sprinkler, candlesticks, the chalice, the tabernacle in the altar, and others), sculptors Josef Axman (the sculpture of Christ on the cross above the main altar and the sculpture of the reclining Christ in the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre), Václav H. Mach (together with Axman the bronze relief Stations of the Cross and the marble baptismal font), and František Fabiánek (bronze relief plates on the pulpit) and painters František Süsser (window paintings in the presbytery, paintings above the entrances to the sacristy and the Chapel of the Virgin Mary), Petr Pištělka (paintings at the entrances under the gallery and paintings in the side altars in the side naves), František Myslivec (paintings now located in the rectory) and Milena Šimková-Elgrová (the painting of the Madonna with the Child at the altar of the Chapel of the Virgin Mary; this was repainted after World War II by Božena Krasická).
