or about movement, the beauty of the body and space
Choreographer Frédéric Flamand comes with a vision reflecting the relationship between dance and architecture. Both dance and architecture are a celebration of space.
In collaboration with Diller+Scofidio, Moving Target (1996), EJM1 & EJM2 (1999), Zaha Hadid - laureate of the Pritzker Prize 2004: Metapolis (2000), Jean Nouvel: The Future of Work-Hannover (2000), Body/Work/Leisure (2001), Thom Mayne - Pritzker Prize 2005: Silent Collisions (La Biennale di Venezia 2003)
Dominique Perrault and Frédéric Flamand (already as the director of Ballet National de Marseille) present the project La Cité Radieuse / Radiant City (2-3.09.2005 Berlin, 12-13.01.2006 Paris). An optimistic vision of a city - a world generated by processes of globalization highlighting the increasingly numerous anonymous spaces of shopping centers, airports, train stations... (noteworthy is Jan Ámos Komenský: Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart - 1623).
The scene is made up of a metallic mesh characterizing Perrault's numerous realizations, buildings of simple forms with sensitivity to material and experimentation with the multiplication of visual effects.
Theater, stage, mesh, a semi-drawn scene from the ceiling, a grid on the floor, and 7 mobile panels.
The reflection of red seats vibrates the metal nets, nets silently filtering space, a fish in water, a web, the hall fills, darkness, shhhhhh, silence.
Music, darkness, image projection - panels as media carriers - MODULOR in blue, white, and red, the colors of France, Le Corbusier and proportions, Le Corbusier and Marseille (Ballet National de Marseille), the radiant city, shine.
Dancers, movement in space and time, the movement of the panels intertwines with dance like music, light, projection, and space. The undulating mesh, the taut curves of the human body, dancers move with the panels. Makers of space.
Cameras. Dancers are captured from angles hidden from us, rear projection onto a veil hanging from the ceiling and panels.
Shine, absorption, permeability. Movement of panels. Perspective, rhythm, area, volume. It is a composition of the real with the projected (recorded from another dimension), as in life, what is the truth? A composition of the transparent and reflective, movement (projection) in front of the panels, behind the panels, shine, movement of the mesh…
The plot, life, cycle, music awakens, caresses, it permeates like the rhythm of our being. The relationship of two people, society… an illuminated wall of the background emerges, surrounding lights fade, the dancers are black silhouettes, from the nets only the eyes shine, space is a plane.
Movement is communication, projected text messages run... where are we heading in life??? Goodness... Love... striving for something, striving……. Establishment……… Recognition……………..
