IdeaThe architectural concept of family houses as a form of artistic work that fulfills the function of family homes. The spatial layout is based on a unique technology of cast visible and thermal insulation concrete. The material used and its properties allow for the creation of a clean minimalist form without optically burdensome details. All functions and technologies are clearly subordinated to the artistic concept.
ReportThe plot is located in an area designated for housing among family houses near the Žebětín cemetery. The gently sloping rectangular plot is 10.5 meters wide and 80 meters long. It is accessible from the north – the short side from Dlážděná street. On the neighboring plots, there are standalone family houses. The architectural-urban concept is based on the scale of the surrounding buildings. The proposed structures are partially embedded in the terrain so as not to disrupt the surrounding development with their mass. The family houses and the garage have a flat roof design to minimize shading of surrounding buildings and adjacent plots.
The layout arrangement is based on the unfavorable shape and orientation of the plot. The system of longitudinal family house objects and atriums is designed with a two-meter setback from the plot boundaries. The exterior walls are designed without windows. All living spaces in the houses receive sunlight through enclosed atriums. The family houses, measuring 6.5 x 24 x 3.15 meters, are single-story and not basement. The entrances to the houses are from the intermediate atriums on the northern side; the quiet zone with bedrooms and a bathroom is accessible from a corridor leading along the western wall. The living area with the kitchen inside the layout opens south to the atrium surrounded by concrete walls through a full-glass wall.
A unique mixture of cast thermal insulation visible concrete was used for the family houses. The walls and ceilings made from this material are single-layer, with thicknesses of 450 and 650 mm. The internal walls, atrium walls, and carport are made of classic visible reinforced concrete. The material integrity is complemented by concrete floors and concrete elements in both the interior and exterior, such as tables, kitchen counters, and bathtubs. Concrete is left as the final visible finish throughout the building.
