Marathon Point is a restoration and transformation project situated on the historic route of the International Peace Marathon in Košice. The intervention reveals the architecture of the existing building by restoring the original volumes, achieved by removing later extensions and clarifying the spatial structure.
The project is based on a moderate approach, within which new functions are introduced into the space in the form of autonomous, clearly legible objects. This strategy allows for the preservation of the architectural integrity of the building while simultaneously creating a contemporary, transparent, and flexible program.
The relationship to public space forms a key component of the design. A café integrated into the street façade creates a direct connection with the historic marathon route and references the refreshment stations scattered along the course. With direct access from the street, it offers a place for a brief stop for visitors and passersby, creating a parallel between marathon performance and the daily rhythm of the city.
The interior route unfolds as a sequence of spatial sequences inspired by the different stages of running. Each space gradually guides the visitor, connecting experience, interpretation, and contemplation, in an environment where function, light, and materiality play a key role.
Marathon Point thus offers a contemporary reading of a place where architecture, memory, and everyday use meet in a moderate and lasting dialogue.
