<translation>Rodinger Department Store</translation>
Architect: Ludvík Hilgert
Completion:1938

The task was to design a department store with a variety of textile, fashion goods, and ready-made clothing. Commercial and administrative operations were required only in the horizontal direction; on the first floor, an apartment for the builder was to be arranged; the main emphasis was placed on the operations in the store, even at the expense of the residential part.
Given the very narrow plot (13.85 m), it was necessary to utilize the construction site depth (up to 33.80 m) and move the residential staircase to the end of the building to ensure a smooth commercial operation. This created an interior with an elongated rectangular layout with built-in offices, a staircase, and facilities at the back of the room. The left wall is occupied by a row of shelves 195 cm high (for better handling) and separated by a gallery with shelves of the same height (for less sought-after goods and stock). A continuous counter along the entire length better suits the operational system, as well as the mentality of rural customers. On the right side, there is a section for carpets and linoleum, followed by a section for hats and umbrellas, a ready-made clothing section with a fitting room, and in the narrower part, knitwear. The entrance to the store is recessed using a passage for display windows. The first floor contains an apartment with seven rooms and facilities and an attic with 2 rooms and a loft.
The building's structure consists of a reinforced concrete skeleton with infill walls made of honeycomb bricks with thermal insulating inserts. The facade facing the square is clad with frost-resistant ceramic tiles "Rakodur" - strips, placed vertically. The sign is made of plastic metal letters with a "Zetal" surface with neon tubes. It is located on a bent iron strip, also with a Zetal cover, and has a layout of an uneven triangle with a rounded top (to be easily seen from the narrow sidewalk). Above the first floor, the sign is covered with a reinforced concrete slab of the same layout shape. The windows are wooden, double-glazed with "Rex" ventilation flaps. The ceiling lighting of the commercial space is made of glass light fixtures with a lower ceiling of prismatic glass.
The floors are mostly light fixtures, partly rubber, chamotte tiles, and the stairs are concrete with a rubber surface.
