Rare books were bound in leather and stored in luxurious, secure cases. It is good when a person cares for essential things. This exhibition describes the history of literature in Moravia, as “
Nations are naked without books.” This is its motto.
Our task was to create a dignified case for the exhibits, an ark, an ancient library that one can enter. Inside, one can search and find important moments of our past, our memory.
An object that serves as the exhibit's carrier, lights, and projection devices is placed in the empty baroque space.
Visitors pass through the object - the “
library” whose inner walls contain showcase displays with exhibits. The inner walls and ceiling are punctuated with numerous openings and skylights creating projections outside. The outer walls of the object are made of shelves of brushed, patinated wood with book motifs. A program called “
Map of Moravia” is projected onto the wall at the entrance, while the program “
Personalities” is projected onto the wall at the exit. A computer with a touchscreen and the program “
Browsing” is placed in a niche in the wall of the hall. The hall's windows are shaded with non-woven fabric printed with patterns.
The exhibit's carrier - the “
library” is a wooden structure consisting of a supporting beam construction, external and internal cladding. The load-bearing structure - the vertical supporting walls are made of beams 50/100 mm laid at 600 mm on a foundation (marking beam). The ceiling structure consists of beams 50/150 and battens 40/60 supporting the ceiling. Lighting is installed on the ceiling structure. The roof allows easy movement using “
walkways” made of 25 mm thick OSB boards.
The inner loaded walls are made of batten frames clad with 1 x OSB and 1 x drywall panels, each 10 mm thick. The outer cladding is made of beams 30/150 mm of brushed, patinated spruce wood. The lower part of the library's base is slightly removable for the installation and replacement of fluorescent tubes. Motifs of books are placed on the shelves. The spaces created in this way are used for the installation of electrical distribution boards and transformers.
The surface of the inner walls of the “
library” consists of drywall panels with a finish. The outer cladding is made of brushed, patinated OSB boards. The projecting front walls of the baroque hall are repaired with white stucco plaster.
The hall is illuminated from the roof of the “
library” with fluorescent tubes and spotlighting. The base is backlit with fluorescent lights. The inner space of the “
library” is illuminated by fluorescent lights and LED lighting from the showcases.
