The Czech brand papelote has created a space in the
Holešovice Market that combines a shop and an infoshop. The former reception area opposite the
HolKa footbridge, which connects Holešovice and Karlín, is a distinctive place – a calm stop in the midst of the vibrant life of the entire area, where visitors can get an overview of current events in the Market as well as inspiration for working with paper, providing space for slowing down. In addition to papelote products, official Market merchandise is also available for sale here. The 75 m² interior has been designed by the architectural studio Monument Office, which has been collaborating with papelote for a long time. The building, which previously served as an entry control point, is now transforming into an open space for visitors and community meetings.
“We see the Holešovice Market as a place that is gradually transforming and attracting new audiences. We have been following its transformation from the beginning, and we find it fascinating how far it has come in recent years. During the six years we had a shop on Milady Horákové, we also developed a strong relationship with this part of the city. So, when the relocation came, it was natural for us to look for a new place right here,” says Denisa Havrdová, director of papelote.
“As soon as the Market approached us with the idea of collaborating on an information center, it made perfect sense to us right away. It is a building I have dreamed of for a long time, so we are very happy to be a part of this environment and offer visitors not only our products and new items but also a place where they can easily orient themselves in what is currently happening in the area. We are also very excited about the wider context of the Art District 7 project. It is a place with enormous potential, and we are really glad to be part of it,” adds Havrdová.
A Gateway to Current EventsThe staff provides information about the program of the Holešovice Market, helps visitors orient themselves in the area, and can direct them on where to find information about activities at individual tenants. Tear-off maps and basic orientation services for visitors, including those from abroad, are also available. It is open every day from 10 AM to 7 PM.
In the initial weeks of operation, most inquiries focused on navigation within the area – thus the infoshop fulfills its role as a natural entry point to the entire area.
The shop offers planners, diaries, notebooks, or photo albums, and a selection of other paper and lifestyle products that customers know from other papelote stores. The offer also includes Holešovice Market merchandise: tote bags, bags, pencils, and keychains. Papelote has previously created A5 Planoo boards for the Market, which include a tear-off block, document pockets, and a set of stickers aligned with the Market's visual identity by Josefína Karlíková and Matej Vojtuš – this product is also available here.
The location of the infoshop fits into the development strategy of the Holešovice Market, which was approved by the City of Prague.
“Papelote was an ideal choice for this collaboration. It connects principles that are essential for the future role of the Market: local production, high-quality design and processing, and a modern Czech brand. The infoshop and papelote in the reception desk also serve as a sort of dramaturgical introduction to the direction of the Holešovice Market,” clarifies the program director of the Holešovice Market, Michal Tošovský.
A Compact Space That Adapts to the SituationThe interior was designed by designers Václav Mlynář and Ondřej Pechal from Monument Office. In this case, they built upon the existing solution by architect Miroslav Němeček and gave the place its final form. The small space of the former reception area needed to be organized in such a way that it could simultaneously handle several functions: a shop, an infoshop, and occasional events.
“The space is conceived as an open and flexible platform. We work with mobile islands that allow us to easily transform the layout based on current needs and can quickly be rearranged into workshop tables. The interior follows the principles of previous realizations for papelote and develops them in this new context,” states designer Václav Mlynář.
A Place to Stop and Spend Time OfflineThe building of the former reception area is gradually opening up to the outside as well. Outdoor seating will be available in front of the shop, and workshops and other creative activities, such as playing paper games, are also planned. The place is not meant just for a quick visit; rather, people can linger for a while, whether they come for the rich program in the Market or just pass by.
