For the INTRO magazine team, participating as an exhibitor at this year's jubilee edition of Designblok was a novelty. The search for a way to present the magazine as an object became a relatively long and winding path, a thought process referring to this year's theme of the design festival.
Magazine ObjectNaturally, it would be fitting to display the magazine on a shelf, in a library complemented by a cozy armchair and good coffee. However, the fact that it would be exhibited within a design showcase called for it to be presented in some unexpected context. The physical paper magazine, in a form that closely resembles that of a book, has become somewhat of a rarity in today’s world, and correspondingly, the level of attention it deserves should reflect that.
The strength of INTRO magazine lies in its continuously maintained high level, not only in terms of content but also graphic design. Each cover starts as a blank canvas, which graphic designer and architect Alena Hyblerová ultimately paints into an unrepeatable image. At that moment, the concept was clear. To exhibit all covers as closely as possible to passersby so that together, at first glance, they would play the strongest chord.
Magazine ContentAll twenty-one covers of regular issues, five specials, and the first issue of INTRO HOUSES seemed to levitate within the depths of concrete reinforcement. In the supporting pillars of architecture, concrete replaced the content of the magazine. A carefully crafted periodical resisting pressure.
The bench in the background, assembled from concrete blocks, textiles, and wood, along with the lamps on the walls in the Great Hall of the Trade Fair Palace, creates a somewhat more intimate atmosphere. It invites people to sit, rest, and flip through the magazine. All the issues displayed side by side felt like in a gallery. In fact, not just like.
In the middle of the white hall, a nook of a reading club was successfully created. The INTRO booth was surrounded by a lot of people. The bench behind the rebar pylons was full of readers eagerly flipping through the pages of the exceptional magazine.
