Pavilion Baarova
With the gradual completion of the BB center in Prague 4 - Michle, initially consisting of larger office buildings, residential buildings and civic amenities were later built on the site - in addition to shops and restaurants, there was a Community Center, a kindergarten, a sports house Nová Brumlovka, and the Christian primary school Eliáš in a reconstructed historical building. With the planned expansion of this school to a lyceum, there arose a need for new teaching spaces, which was addressed by relocating part of the school’s supplementary facilities (the school cafeteria and leisure clubrooms) to a new building on Baarova Street - the School Pavilion.
The School Pavilion was constructed on the site of a dilapidated family house on a street with similarly sized villas, so the aim was for it to naturally blend into the environment while also expressing the typology of a specific educational facility. The asymmetrical division of the building's mass with a composition of differently sized windows according to the needs of the interior spaces and the partial embedding below the level of Baarova Street contributes to the building appearing smaller than it actually is.
On the ground floor of the pavilion, there are entrance spaces from Baarova Street, a children's cloakroom, and part of the leisure clubrooms. The first floor contains additional clubrooms, and on the top, recessed floor, there is a staff apartment. The school cafeteria takes advantage of the sloping terrain and is at the garden level on the floor below the street level of Vyskočilova, with part of the kitchen's back room embedded below ground. The cafeteria opens with large glazed surfaces onto an outdoor terrace leading into the garden, which also has a separate entrance, allowing children to have lunch outside for part of the year. An important component of this expansion of the school's possibilities is also the new athletics field adjacent to the garden of the Pavilion from the north, which is accessible from there.
The Baarova School Pavilion is currently the smallest building in the BB center, but at the same time, it significantly strengthens the school and thereby the civic amenities in this locality.
