The lecture hall of the LBBZ Plantahof educational center is located in the town of Landquart in eastern Switzerland in the canton of Graubünden and serves as a consulting center for breeders and cattle owners. The puristic design comes from architect Valeria Olgiati and the engineering office Conzett Bronzini Gartman. The project took about one year to develop and cost 2 million euros. The dark gray concrete monolith completes the new main square in the campus of the Plantahof agricultural school. The building with its pronounced shed roof appears as a solitary rock in the flat surroundings of Landquart. Only two opposite windows direct light into the dim interior, which divides the space and offers a view from the newly created square towards the Prättigau valley. The multipurpose hall can host 130-180 participants. In addition to being used as a conventional lecture hall, it can be utilized for scientific seminars, parliamentary meetings, and panel discussions.
Dark additives are incorporated into the concrete. Above the roof, a thin concrete wall is tensioned over beams and trusses. The main support column extends out from the building. The load-bearing structure can be described as a hybrid between a skeleton and a massive construction.
