The presented work is a creative endeavor by three architects from what is now a past collaborative period at the BHC studio.
The realized interior for Český Telecom was a pilot project for a chain of stores featuring telecommunications equipment and services. We approached the design generously, and unlike the client's original idea of merely swapping furniture, we convinced them of a completely new concept and method of selling. The pilot project was realized in České Budějovice within the existing premises of Český Telecom's service center.
In hindsight, I believe that this generosity of approach and the associated overall costs of implementation determined that the pilot project (it was anticipated to implement about 15 stores in the first year) was also the last of its kind.
All subsequent projects have been and are being addressed in a standard manner using the existing store concept from the Netherlands (Vitra furniture sets). Today, they can be seen across the country. Standard production.
The contractor Kyzlink, s.r.o. deserves praise for showing maximum diligence in bringing things to completion (the use of Teflon cables, gluing steel to glass, etc.), it was a joy to see how individual parts of the space were created and how the cosmopolitan space we designed came into being. Often, I recall that developmental phase when watching today's popular sci-fi (
The Island).
And neon signs? I still have a soft spot for them.
