Our longtime friend and client brought his friends to us, who were currently renovating a two-story attic space. They began to have doubts about the study and project according to which the renovation was taking place at the stage when the partitions were being constructed. They were interested to know if we could design an airy, practical, functionally equipped, cozy, and yet earthy interior for the emerging space.
However, we were not able to do that. The layout was, from our perspective, so poorly thought out that it was impossible to build on it in a quality manner. There was little storage space, the bathrooms were impractically designed, important functions were inappropriately placed under sloping ceilings, poor staircase layout, etc.
We agreed to stop the construction work, we developed a new study that met all their requirements, and.... demolition, construction, measurements, and manufacturing began.
On the upper floor is the main living space – kitchen, dining room, lower seating area by the television, access to a smaller terrace at this level, storage spaces hidden under the slope behind a full-metal folding wall, a toilet, and stairs to the large upper rooftop terrace, which is currently being completed.
On the lower floor is the parents' bedroom with a spacious closet, a separate toilet, a bathroom; on the other half of the floor are two children's rooms, a bathroom, a separate toilet, and a laundry room.
The clients had a fairly precise idea of the materials they preferred:
natural brushed knotty oak, anthracite tones (stone, steel, plastic, coatings), medium gray concrete plaster (in high-traffic areas), glass, polished stainless steel, coarser details in natural iron, sophisticated ones in stainless steel, etc. The load-bearing structures of the roof truss are "wrapped" in steel-wood portals, which form a sort of second frame for pictures or inscriptions on the walls.
The panel between the sofa and the dining area also covers the load-bearing structure and serves as a drawing board for children.
The owner had selected chandeliers and most of the accessories and decorations. Just a few days after we handed over the space to them, she completed and furnished it with sensitivity and grace.
