Row Houses Runopuisto

Row Houses Runopuisto
Address: Valiilantie 12, Helsinki, Finland
Completion:1992

The construction of the Vallila library did not complete the surrounding Vallila project. On the northern side of the area, there were two original houses from the 1920s, and part of the project included their reconstruction. Preserving these buildings was very important because there are very few original structures in this part of Vallila. At the time of the library's construction and the early stages of the reconstruction of these buildings, it was found that the condition of the wooden structures was very poor, so new terraced houses were designed for this location. The new design aimed to achieve the same atmosphere as the original buildings. The angled facades allow views in all directions from each house. The main living space is a dominant feature of the houses, rising over two floors. This space extends through terraces and balconies into the southern garden. On the gallery above the living area, there is space for sleeping and a library.
