Reconstruction of the administrative building and completion of the Sapeli showroom

Reconstruction of the administrative building and completion of the Sapeli showroom
Address: Pávovská 15a, Jihlava, Czech Republic
Investor:Sapeli, a.s.
Project:2006-09
Completion:11/2009 - 08/2010

The investor's goal was to create a striking, unmistakable, easily accessible, and inviting "gateway to the world of doors," which, through its expression, will appeal to – draw in – every potential client moving around it into its "presentation interiors."

The building is located in the built-up northern part of the city of Jihlava, in the Bedřichov district, in an industrial zone along Pávovská Street. The completion of the original administrative building led to the creation of a separate exhibition for the presentation of SAPELI, a.s. The administrative building was elevated by one floor and covered with a flat roof, and its appearance was visually unified with the newly completed showroom.

The extension of the showroom is designed at the site of the existing entrance portal. The showroom structure is massed and shaped to also serve as a symbolic "gate" not only to the area (even for trucks). The existing building is connected to the extension on the ground floor by a gatehouse (for employees) and on the second floor by a glazed connecting corridor.

The main materials used are concrete, metal, and glass. The glazed walls lighten the austere main mass of the showroom. The lightness is further emphasized by the slender columns supporting the showroom from the street view.

The unification of the new extension with the existing building is reflected in the shape of the third-floor addition (flat roof), and the technical appearance is provided by new protruding metal slats on the existing building. A highlight is the entrance (client) tunnel (tubus) with a staircase that adjusts the height level between the outdoor free space and the showroom floor. The tunnel is "set" in a pond at its lower part, part of which is crossed by a footbridge leading into the tubus.

The side perimeter load-bearing walls made of reinforced concrete from the exterior are covered with cladding of facade profiled sheet metal and inserted thermal insulation. The street and courtyard elevations of the showroom are made of a glazed façade with edging of suspended glass fiber concrete panels.
The vertical load-bearing structures of the first and second floors of the showroom are designed from prefabricated rectangular columns lightened by oval-shaped openings. In the second floor, monolithic reinforced concrete walls are designed on the shorter sides of the building's rectangular floor plan.

The horizontal load-bearing structures of the showroom are designed as reinforced concrete slabs with beams. An opening for a fixed skylight is designed in the ceiling slab above the showroom.

For the entry of visitors to the showroom, an entrance tubus made of a spatial truss steel structure from closed profiles is designed.

The load-bearing structure of the tubus consists of a traversable parametrically designed truss steel structure. The individual elements consist of square or rectangular pipe profiles. This structure forms both side walls of the tubus, as well as the ceiling and floor. The structure is approximately 33.5 m long, 2.5 m wide, 3.5 m high, and is divided into three assembly units. The placement of the structure in the second floor of the showroom is asymmetrical, and vertical forces are transferred through the supports at the load-bearing column of the showroom. All elements are designed as rectangular tubes. In the lower part, the structure is anchored to the reinforced concrete structure of the pond with an embedded sliding bearing. In the upper part, the structure is anchored to a reinforced concrete column and the floor in the first floor.

Inside the tubus, a staircase with sheet metal stair treads and steps and risers made of a grating is designed. The interior space is illuminated by linear LED screws. The tubus is clad in perforated metal sheet in the company's shade of red.

The roofing of the showroom consists of a flat roof with a slope of 1.5°. The load-bearing structure of the roof consists of a reinforced concrete ceiling slab with beams in both directions and reinforced concrete parapets. The slope of the flat roof is created by sloping thermal insulation boards.

In front of the premises, sufficient facilities are created for client parking, which is followed by employee parking behind the gate into the area and covered parking for company management, allowing parking and entering the building "with dry feet."
