The House of Children and Youth is located on Kpt. Jaroš Street, in the central part of the city. The client, the city of Kopřivnice, invited our studio to make adjustments consisting of energy measures for the building and savings on future operating costs. The energy audit demonstrated the necessity of insulating the facade and replacing the window openings. The city requested a recovery system.
The architectural expression of the design and subsequent reconstruction is based on the original character of the construction, where certain elements of so-called Miesian architecture can be traced (note: architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, author of the Tugendhat Villa). This includes generous glazing, ribbon windows, a slender steel canopy, an open garden concept, etc. An important task within the urban planning of the city was found to be the removal of the front fence and the opening of public space to the street.
