Reconstruction of a villa on Květná Street in Brno

The house is located in a pleasant villa district in Brno, where row houses alternate with more prominent detached buildings. The original lodge from the 19th century is wedged between two unremarkable neighbors.
The investor lives in a modern house outside of Brno. The brief for this second project was formulated as "a cottage" in the city.
During the renovation of the house, I wanted to retain the original concept of the internal space, preserve the atmosphere of the house, keep the interesting architectural parts of the house, and if necessary, have replicas made, while the newly constructed parts would be done modernly in contrast with the original building. The layout of the house was practically unchanged; I utilized the original staircase and access to the garden.
The house has been repaired on the street side, without significant interventions. A garage for two vehicles on low chassis is placed in the front garden area.
I made a more radical intervention in the garden façade of the house. The entire original façade, literally assembled piece by piece, was demolished. The new façade made of concrete blocks with windows in aluminum frames brings plenty of light into the house even from the northern side. Light penetrates into the living spaces through windows and subsequently through technical support areas with partitions made of etched glass.
The entire ground floor is designed as the social part of the house, including a living atrium in the garden hidden from the neighbors' view, while the upper floor is purely private space with two bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms.
