Address: Bažantní 499, Radošovice, Říčany, Czech Republic
Completion:8/1998 - 8/1999

The assignment was a villa for a five-member family on a "green field." The original concept from the clients was typically magazine-like – a house with a sloping roof, an attic for the children, and an open gallery. For the solution, the cohesion of the family, their mutual communication, and the emphasis on the possibility of sports and cultivating a healthy lifestyle were very important. At the same time, they also demanded a house as a representative residence. They realized that they didn't necessarily have to have a sloping roof and that a house open to the landscape, connected with nature, could evoke a feeling of freedom and liberty. However, it has different attributes from a "Czech cottage." The concept of a ground-level structure slightly floating above the terrain suddenly seemed like an ideal solution for both functional links and integration into the landscape. The irregular T shape addresses the separation of the children's wing, which could be transformed into a separate apartment in the future, and the main wing containing all the shared spaces and the parents' background. The chosen materials also correspond to the feeling of connection with nature. The façade and outdoor grid are made of tropical Kapur wood, which requires no treatment. The combination with aluminum windows gives the building a more precise and modern expression. The plinths and walls are complemented with brizolite.
For the entrance path and the vestibule, sandstone is used, and except for the children's bedrooms, where carpets are laid, oak parquet flooring is used throughout the house. The built-in furniture and panels are made of natural-colored oak veneer. On the central wall with an arch, the veneer is stained in a grey-blue color. The neutral color palette is maintained throughout the house in a way that does not disturb the impression of space, openness, and connection with nature.
Long discussions about the feelings from what is being created, rather than about what we "like-dislike," ultimately led, I believe, to a balanced result fully suitable for the family's lifestyle.
