Family house in Hradištko pod Medníkem
The plot is located in a recreational zone, which is slowly being overtaken by houses for permanent residence. The parcels are small, and the buildings on them are minor and intricate, sitting in gardens full of fruit trees, often overshadowed by groups of tall conifers.
Two slender pines, a couple of nice spruces, and a blooming apple tree were the main motifs for the placement and shaping of the house, which opens with its glass façade into a calm southwest garden. It has a cubic mass, topped with a simple gabled roof featuring a distinctive element of the overhang of the gables. Volumes of the living room and a small office extend from the house, enclosing the southwest terrace, which thereby gains the utmost privacy. In the ground floor, windows cut through the façade towards the tree trunks, into garden nooks, while on the upper floor, they open to wide views of the countryside. Large glazed areas are complemented by smaller cutouts that seemingly balance the composition.
The façade is clad in larch paneling, the wooden window frames are a striking yellow color, and the roof and cladding are made of titanium zinc. We placed the house on pads due to the rocky substrate.
The supporting structure is a combination of timber ceilings and walls made of solid Novatop wooden panels. The surfaces of all wooden elements in the interior are treated with a hard white wax oil, as are the spruce floorboards from the same manufacturer. The offcuts from the panels are fully utilized for staircase elements and free-standing furniture.
The house is heated with warm air heating that includes recuperation and a heat pump, and the system is supplemented with a wood stove. Along with insulation and quality windows, it achieves passive standard.
The house is very considerate of its surroundings, not placing a greater burden on the environment than necessary. The only downside in this regard is the noise from the heat pump, and when designing in denser developments, this fact needs to be taken into account.
