Interested in a small clay dome used by a local villagers to burn charcoal, Radic consulted the help of the 90 year old man who built it to create a new hut for burning. The walls are created in sections by tamping together hewn thorn-wood, clay, and straw. The formwork is then burned, baking the clay, and the process repeated until the structure is whole. Small openings are placed at regular intervals in order to control the heat of the flames. As sculptural as it is architectural, the project focuses less on aesthetics and more on Radic’s interest in traditional and local building processes used for contemporary projects.
