Character of the place: The village of Nebovidy needed covered spaces for organizing cultural and sports events. The narrow and elongated plot located in the center of the village next to the existing kindergarten and its beautiful garden posed a significant challenge for the architect. By setting the building back from the street line, the kindergarten was given a dominant position. This created the necessary entrance area for the hall intended for parking and opened a view into the garden.
The new building is divided into two interconnected parts:
A, the entrance multifunctional rounded section with smaller halls and
B, the mass-oriented orthogonal section of the hall itself, which is partially embedded in the sloping terrain.
Floor plan of the building:A, The entry two-story rounded section contains a representative communication space with an info-reception, seating, and refreshments. It is followed by a small hall for interest groups or video presentations. On the ground floor, there are also facilities with capacity toilets, changing rooms with showers, and technical rooms. The dominant feature of the atrium is the staircase leading to the gallery and to the rentable office and gym spaces. The rounded part is constructed from aerated concrete blocks with panel ceilings and is clad with a ventilated facade made of metal slats with a wood imitation.
B, The hall with a sports and social area measuring 16x26x7.5m is height, fire, and material-separated from the entrance section. The court made of oak parquet is intended for badminton, basketball, volleyball, footvolley, floorball, or small football. However, the main hall also serves as a venue for cultural and social events, music concerts, cinema, theater, or balls. The stage is accessible without barriers from the western side due to the embedding of the building into the terrain. Visually, the interior space connects with the garden through large windows facing east. It consists of a brick prefabricated reinforced concrete frame with external contact thermal insulation. The span of 16m is bridged by glued wooden trusses.
Construction and technical installations:The source of heat for heating, ventilation, and preparation of hot water is gas condensing boilers. The entrance area is heated by underfloor heating. For heating the hall and stage, water radiant panels are used, suspended from the ceiling of the building. The hall space is ventilated using a central air conditioning unit with heat recovery, a water heater, and a cooler connected to a condensing unit. Due to its massive insulation, the building is low-energy.
