The new permanent exhibition at the state castle of Kunštát In the coat of arms of three stripes was realized as part of the project Year of the Lords of Kunštát. The exhibition documents the medieval history of the original castle in the newly opened medieval cellars, in the Renaissance ground floor of the southern wing, and in the castle courtyard.
The individual rooms focus on specific aspects of medieval life in the castle within thematic areas: castle architecture, games and tournaments, faith, war, death, cuisine, and the genealogy of the Lords of Kunštát.
With the curator of the exhibition Michal Konečný, we decided on a visual and spatial solution that contrasts with the rough masonry and stone architecture of the individual spaces. We created a shape that is completely contemporary, which does not imitate and simultaneously does not compete with the original architecture of the castle.
The exhibition is arranged as a system of podiums and panels, which differ in color within the individual thematic areas. The visitor enters the podium and knows which area they are currently in. The unifying visual elements are three black stripes from the coat of arms of the Lords of Kunštát.
A striking element is the graphics on the individual panels, which utilize photographs and illustrative materials from the collections of the National Heritage Institute. They are complemented by display cases with exhibits and touch screens with interactive programs. As part of the exhibition, complete accompanying graphics, promotional materials, worksheets for children, and three publications on medieval buildings and art were also designed.
