Relaxed Rawness
The project from 2015 aimed at the renovation of the former pigsty into a technical facility with a sauna and the demolition of the garage, where a terrace was to be built. However, the project revision remained in the stage of contemplation for a long time.
The current project works with the intimacy of sauna bathing and the rawness of agricultural buildings. It allows these elements to resonate through the lime-washed walls, basalt paving, exposed installations, galvanized window and door frames, and recycled elements such as barn doors and old bricks. The result is an environment that stands on simplicity, rawness, and direct acknowledgment of construction and technology, rather than creating a "wellness" atmosphere. A new terrace has been created at the site of the former garage, connecting the house with the barn. The simple oak structure made of unplaned wood aesthetically ties back to the character of original agricultural buildings. The terrace is a natural extension of the kitchen interior and serves as the main living space of the house during the summer months. A prominent functional and visual element of the garden is a concrete rainwater tank that also serves as a cooling tub.
The entire project works with the tension between rawness and the everyday comfort of use. It does not strive to suppress the original character but to preserve it and support its gentle development in contemporary use.
