Villa in České Budějovice

Villa in České Budějovice
Architect: 4DS spol. s r.o.
Completion:2000
Area:230 m2

The plot is irregularly shaped, covering an area of nearly 0.5 hectares. Two-thirds of it is covered by a mixed forest, predominantly pine trees. It offers a view of the valley and the sunset. The almost flat terrain gently slopes to the north. The house follows the optical line of the forest edge, which creates a backdrop when viewed from the west toward the entrance facade. The mass of the house, situated in the bend of the plot, divides the garden into two halves: the front representative half and the rear private one.
The horizontal glazed part contrasts with the vertical lines of the pine trunks. It is situated in the middle of nature beneath the tree crowns. The house avoids the trees, as the forest is the more valuable part of the property.

The structure consists of a composition of two masses: a single-storey glazed part with the main living space and a three-storey stone part with the bedroom area. The rubble stone of the stone house evokes a sense of safety, permanence, and representativeness, while the glazed section with wooden cladding evokes lightness and sociability. The large windows serve as frames, allowing views into the forest, and the house is well lit year-round through a filter of greenery.
The heart of the house is a two-storey entrance hall with a staircase, which provides an overview of the entire building. From the hall, there is a sightline through the living area to the terrace with the pines. The main living space with the dining area connects to both parts of the garden. Three rear bedrooms with bathrooms face the forest—this is the private part of the property. The room above the entrance can optionally become an office.
