The new Philharmonic for the city of Kepler is a perfect cube. It is a cohesive music box (musical box). An elegant instrument developed exclusively for the musical mise-en-scène, professional and precise: its large urban windows expose various foyers to the city and visually engage it in the musical life that unfolds inside. Thanks to its prominent location directly on the banks of the Vltava River and along the thoroughfare, this Grand House of Music creates a park and a square. The square represents both the building and the city and aims to transform them into a metropolitan whole. The park at the back serves as an ecological lighthouse for a new future neighborhood that is in development.
With the vertical arrangement of the program of the Vltava Philharmonic, we achieved a minimal footprint. This small area allows us to radically rethink the open space around the building, between the river and the new city district, a space that can truly be public. In the northern part, towards the new development, a real park with large trees occupies half of the site, while to the west, the main square leading to the Music Box becomes a large solid public space with a water feature. Along the riverbank, a promenade continues along the Vltava for its entire length. This waterfront allows the Vltava to become an integral part of the site and the surrounding city.
Despite its small footprint, the monumental building of the Music Box measuring 72x72x72 m dominates the site. Its area directly connects to the Vltava River and the surrounding city. Inside, the city continues vertically, with foyers and concert halls on different levels. Generous windows open the interior towards incredible views of whole Prague.
