The Výčep restaurant is located in an apartment building in Prague's Vinohrady. Our goal was to design a traditional Czech pub with traditional Czech beer and cuisine, all interpreted in the 21st century. We aimed to define the typical elements of a Czech pub from the early 20th century and then apply those in a contemporary interior. The fundamental building block is the VÝČEP, which welcomes visitors right at the entrance. There must be a place for "standing beer" at the bar, and of course, a proper lager on tap. Here, it is Dalešice beer from the recently renewed historical brewery. A common feature of interiors was wooden wall paneling, which protected against damage, and parquet flooring. As a reference to the wall paneling, a green band of washable paint is used in the interior, winding throughout the space and unifying otherwise materially entirely different walls into a single entity. The floor features oak staves arranged in a traditional herringbone pattern. The furniture is a combination of atypical wooden benches and tables and typically pub-style TON banana chairs in dark brown. An integral part of a proper pub is a lounge, which of course cannot be missing in the bar; here, 33 armchairs and a wooden coffered ceiling with a neon light by Vojtěch Kálecký are used. Vojtěch also designed linear lighting above the bench, stretching from the entrance through the entire space of the restaurant. Other light fixtures are glass, with traditional shapes from the Czech manufacturer Osmont. The entire bar is overseen by Bohumil Hrabal, who is connected to the Dalešice brewery through the film Postřižiny.
However, the entire interior serves merely as a backdrop for the main attraction of the bar, which is undoubtedly the excellent cuisine. Traditional Czech recipes in a completely new and unexpected interpretation.
