Coisture - the aesthetics of the factory

<translation>Production facility</translation>
Architect: Gerhard Merz
Address: Zeiseweg 13, Tharandt, Germany
Project:1995-6
Completion:1996-8

The German artist Gerhard Merz drew attention to himself years ago with his painted works "Ed io anche sono architetto" (I am also an architect). The generous Mr. Siegfried Heimer allowed Merz's architectural visions of form, space, and light to be realized as a combination of classical simplicity and repetition alongside the purity of material and architectural perfection.
In the building, which combines offices and warehouses, the harsh aesthetics of scale, rhythm, proportion, clarity, geometry, and symmetry relentlessly reflect an opposition to caprice (die Beliebigkeit) and thoughtlessness of contemporary buildings.

Aftermath. In 2003, we went to see the building with Professor Emil Příkryl's School of Architecture. Unfortunately, it was taken into use by a branch of the university library. The clean spaces were gone; there was a kitschy attempt to create coziness.
