"The dance studio serves its purpose well. ‘Students simply float here,’ says Margaret Marshall (founder of the dance program at UCSD). ‘They make use of practically every inch of the house, gathering along the curved wall to warm up, stretch, and wedge their legs into crevices. They dance in small courtyards and run along the walls. They respond to the freedom of open spaces, the flexibility of rubber floors, the adaptable network of lighting, and natural ventilation."

The Molli and Arthur Wagner Dance Facility lies to the east of the Mandell Weiss Forum, designed by the same architect. Despite similarities in details, they have completely different concepts. Wagner Dance is introspective, nestled in the middle of a grove. The curved wall delineates itself from the surroundings and organizes the volumes of three dance studios. The flat mirror reflects the image of the surrounding trees, making the structure even less visible. In the last
of the four volumes are changing rooms and hygienic facilities for the dancers.
One of the dance studios can be transformed into a black theater
with 120 seats.
