Elementary School Kinkplatz

Elementary School Kinkplatz
Architect: Helmut Richter
Address: Kinkplatz 21, Wien, Austria
Completion:1994

Today, the already iconic building by the representative of Austrian high-tech stands in an interesting position on the slope above the 14th district of Vienna. The school, meticulously divided into operational units, dominates the entire surroundings. The atypical steel-and-glass expression of the school contrasts very well with the environment, and due to its modern elegant form, it does not look bad at all.
The school is oriented to the cardinal points in such a way that the three tracks of classrooms (with a capacity of 20 classrooms) on the northern side utilize eastern and western lighting, while the gymnasium on the south benefits from solar energy through its sloped glass roof, as does the entrance area with the dining room. All units are connected by a backbone corridor. Truly a fantastic spatial solution.
Helmut Richter did not get bogged down in the formal marshes of 80s high-tech (unlike the works of the Brno A plus a.s.) and created a beautiful example of ecological high-tech, which I really like because it is smart and does not try to play at being mechanical but actually is. Simply put, the school at Kinkplatz is worth seeing.
