Biography
Bet Figueras was a Catalan landscape architect regarded as a pioneer of Mediterranean urban landscape. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to the study of urban ecosystems. She created a highly skilled team of landscape architects and secured a respected place for this field at the ETSAB university in Barcelona.
She studied architecture and landscape architecture at various universities, including Berkeley, as well as Georgetown and Edinburgh. In the early 1980s, she returned to Barcelona and established a studio with María Jover. She was not interested in developing her own work; she focused on collaborating with leading architects such as Rafael Moneo, Beth Galí, and Cruz y Ortiz, and inspired them with her admiration and deep knowledge of trees.
In 1987, she opened her own studio. In collaboration with Carlos Ferrater and Josep Lluis Canosa, she contributed to the design of residential blocks for the Olympic Village in 1992 and to the project of the botanical garden in Barcelona in 1999. She was a member of the Institute of Landscape Architecture and the Spanish Association of Landscape Architects.
She was also instrumental in creating the master's degree program in landscape architecture at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB), where she shared knowledge gained in the United States and the United Kingdom.
