BiographyDomingos Manuel Campelo Tavares studied architecture in 1973 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Porto, where a month after completing his studies he became a teacher of theory and history of architecture. He has been working as an architect since 1971. From 1998 to 2006, he was the chairman of the administrative and scientific council of the
FAUP. In March 2010, he retired, but remains a member of the advisory board of the Department of Architecture at the University of Minho and is a visiting professor at the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra, where he focuses on the theory of architectural design.
Among his most significant works are family houses in Ovar (1967-77), a residential complex in Esmoriz (1989-92), and the Faculty of Dentistry building at the University of Porto (1997) and the library of the Polytechnic Institute in Coimbra.
