Aliaa AlSadaty – Rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of historic bridges

The lecturer Aliaa Alsadaty from the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University will focus in her lecture on metal bridges of the 19th and early 20th centuries in Egypt. It was the first in Africa and the Middle East to introduce railways, and several bridges over the Nile were constructed at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The lecture follows the journey of two historical metal bridges in Egypt from their inception through demolition to their reuse. The presentation highlights efforts to prevent the complete loss of the mentioned bridges, while also calling for the establishment of a comprehensive system for the protection of historical metal bridges.
