The Venice Biennale is an international exhibition of contemporary art held every two years in Venice, Italy, since 1895. This event provides an opportunity for countries to present an exhibition project developed by selected artists, curators, and curatorial teams from the respective country or locality. The presentations take place in adjacent locations of the city and in historic national pavilions. One of them is the pavilion bearing the name CECOSLOVACCHIA, built for the presentation of the Czechoslovak Republic, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. The aim of the CECOSLOVACCHIA exhibition is to "transfer" the Czech and Slovak pavilion from Venice to the Czech Republic and make it accessible or literally bring it closer to the local audience. The transfer opens up the possibility of viewing the pavilion in a completely new context, stripped of its representative function. The exhibition not only addresses its history and current state but also cultural and political events in both countries, symbolically linked in the Venetian pavilion even after the division of Czechoslovakia. During the exhibition, the pavilion will serve in collaboration with Divadlo 29 for the realization and support of Slovak projects in the field of performative art. In parallel with the exhibition, we will also focus on making accessible the only preserved exhibition pavilion, which was part of the largest cultural event in Pardubice to date in 1931 – the National Exhibition of Physical Education and Sport. After the end of this exhibition, the building was moved to the adjacent park of the Bohdaneč Healing Spa, where it is currently derelict. The purpose of the project is to make this monument again accessible for the presentation of exhibitions of contemporary young artists. After the end of the CECOSLOVACCHIA exhibition, the exhibition architecture will be recycled and used for the reconstruction of the Bohdaneč pavilion.
