The year 2025 in the Moravian metropolis is marked by the 130th anniversary of the birth of Bohuslav Fuchs (1895–1972), one of the famous creators and founders of functionalist architecture in our country. It is also the year that marks 30 years since the death of his son Kamil Fuchs (1930–1995), a significant architect of the second half of the 20th century, recognized especially for his designs of historical reconstructions and interiors.

The exhibition Reconstruction of Kamil Fuchs presents the most acclaimed part of his architectural work through selected realizations of restorations and adaptations of heritage sites in Brno. These projects were created in collaboration with the Atelier 20 team of the Brno branch of the State Institute for the Reconstruction of Heritage Cities and Objects (SÚRPMO).

The most significant installation here is the restoration of the Tugendhat villa (1981–1985), whose occupancy permit was granted 40 years ago on August 27 this year. This reconstruction was awarded at the World Biennale of Architecture in Sofia in 1987.

The second part of the exhibition focuses on further significant realizations of Kamil Fuchs's team in Brno. Special attention is given to the Měnínská Gate, a monument-protected object adapted in the years 1972–1983 for cultural purposes. In the context of its ongoing reconstruction, this topic gains current relevance. Furthermore, projects for the restoration of extensive areas of the Old Town Hall, the Great Spilberk, and terraces below Petrov are presented.

A specific chapter of Kamil Fuchs's architectural work comprises the designs of interiors for wine bars, restaurants, and clubs in heritage environments, which can now only be admired in period photographs. All of these interiors have already vanished, just as his architectural footprint is fading throughout Brno.

The exhibition at the Tugendhat villa is part of the exhibition and publication project “New World” of Kamil Fuchs, which symbolically builds on the preceding exhibition intervention New World of Bohuslav Fuchs and Rudolf Sandal. Another exhibition “layer”, entering into the permanent exhibit On New Brno. Brno Architecture 1919–1939, presents four chapters from Kamil Fuchs's work. The collaboration between father and son Fuchs focuses on their joint competitions and projects. Kamil Fuchs's architectural input into the buildings of Bohuslav Fuchs presents an interesting moment when the son reacted to his father's modernist works, for which he created new interiors. The third chapter is Care for the Legacy of the Father, for whom Kamil Fuchs designed a tombstone and a memorial plaque. The last chapter, presented at Špilberk Castle and completely unknown to the public, pertains to Kamil Fuchs’s own free artistic creation, exclusively lent for this occasion.
