George Francis Hellmuth was an American architect from an architectural family (his father George and uncle Harry led the firm Hellmuth and Hellmuth Architects). In 1929, he obtained a bachelor's degree in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis and in 1930 earned a master's degree there. In 1932, he began his career as the city architect of St. Louis, where he designed civic buildings including police stations and bus stops. In 1949, he moved into the private sector and co-founded the firm Hellmuth, Yamasaki, and Leinweber. In 1954, he replaced the partners in Hellmuth, Obata, and Kassabaum, which later became HOK, the largest American architectural-engineering firm in 2018.
