1968 - graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon
since 1970 - is a member of the Union of Portuguese Architects (reg. no. 520)
1975 - founded his own studio in Lisbon, which was renamed Gonçalo Byrne Arquitectos in 1991
1985-87 - was the director of Jornal Arquitectos
2005 - received an honorary doctorate in architecture from the Technical University of Lisbon
