Biography
Gustav Sachers was an Austro-Hungarian historicist architect and owner of a construction company operating mainly in Liberec and its surroundings.
He trained with the Liberec builder Anton Hollub, who encouraged him to go to Munich, where he initially worked as a mason. Contacts with several painters, sculptors, and architects eventually prompted him to enroll in 1853 to study architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. After returning to Liberec, he considered the possibility of traveling to America, but ultimately decided to stay on the advice of Anton Hollub and married his daughter in 1861. In the early years after his return to Liberec, he worked as a representative in his father-in-law's company. In 1863, he founded his own construction company. His work shows the influence of strict historicism.
While still under the builder's supervision, the company began constructing the seat of the regional court in Liberec, which was completed three years after his death, in 1877. Gustav Sachers died on December 7, 1874. The company was subsequently taken over by his brother Heinrich together with builder Gärtner. Later, the management was taken over by Sachers' sons Gustav and Alfred, who after their studies took over the company in 1891 and renamed it Gustav Sachers Söhne, which lasted until after World War II, when the family moved to Bavaria.
