Biography
He was born in Brno as the firstborn son of architect Jaroslav Kovář the Elder and his first wife Božena, née Otáhalová. From 1932 to 1934, he worked with his father as a designer. Their joint works included, for example, the design for the ASO department store of entrepreneur Josef Ander Jr. in Lima, Peru, and the design for the Přerov hotel in Olomouc. In 1945, he became the author of the winning design for the Red Army Memorial in Olomouc, which is considered the first architectural work of socialist realism in Czechoslovakia. His further work was disrupted by political persecution in the 1950s.
