Biography
Johanna Meyer-Grohbrügge is a German architect living and working in Berlin. She studied at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus (1998-2000), IUAV in Venice (2000-01 under Prof. B. Secchi), UNISI in Mendrisio (2002-03 under Prof. P. Zumthor) and ETH in Zurich (2001-05 under Prof. P. Märkli and H&deM). She gained work experience at Steven Ehrlich in Los Angeles (2001) and Meili Peter in Zurich (2003-04). During her five-year practice (6.2005-9.2010) at the Tokyo office of SANAA, she became acquainted with the New York architect Sam Chermayeff, with whom she subsequently led a joint studio in Berlin/New York, June 14 Meyer-Grohbrügge & Chermayeff. In 2015, she founded her own practice Büro Meyer-Grohbruegge in Berlin. From 2010 to 2021, she taught at DIA (Dessau Institute of Architecture of Anhalt University) in Dessau. As a visiting professor, she has been active at Columbia University in New York, Washington University in St. Louis, and Northeastern University in Boston. In October 2021, she was appointed a full professor of architectural design at the Technical University of Darmstadt.
