Biography
Karel Typovský studied at the Reálka in Olomouc and during the war completed the Higher Industrial School of Civil Engineering in Brno. After graduating, he was deployed to the engineering factory Baťa in Zlín. Here began his first efforts in drawing and understanding fine arts. Although he was not a student of the Zlín School of Arts, he admired the works of painter Hroch, Hofman, and sculptor Makovský, among others.
After the war, he was deciding between the Art-Industrial School and the Higher School of Architecture. His experiences and knowledge from the industrial school directed Typovský to the Higher School of Architecture in Prague – Dejvice. There, exceptional professors, architects, and artists such as Mašek, Honzík, Krch, Černý, Liesler, Štech, and others, who had been prohibited from teaching during the war, lectured.
During his studies, Typovský supplemented his income by working on the urban planning solution for the Vltava dam from the Svatojánské rapids to Kamík, which involved drawing landscapes with indications of the future increased water level of the Vltava.
After graduating from the Higher School of Architecture, he joined the studio of prof. Kroha, where he worked with Kádl, Pešánek, and Gavlas on the study of the Builders' Square in Prague. From prof. Kroha, he moved to Stavoprojekt Praha.
In Prague, it was very difficult to acquire an apartment, so he moved to Olomouc, where he worked as the chief architect of Atelier “T” until his retirement.
