BiographyMilena Vitoulová was born during World War II into the family of architect Vladimír Šrámek, who worked in one of the private architectural offices in Brno. In 1959, she enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the Brno University of Technology. Her diploma project on the topic “Sports Complex VUT Brno, Královo Pole,” which she successfully defended in 1965, was developed in the studio of Zdeněk Alexy. On the day of the festive graduation ceremony, she married her classmate Ladislav Vitoul.
While still studying, she worked part-time during the summer at the Ostrava Regional Design Institute (later Stavoprojekt) in Vlastimil Bichler's group. Thanks to this experience, after graduation, she knew that instead of studios primarily designing housing estates, she could apply to the Atelier A6 (AT6) led by Zdeněk Strnadel, which focused on the design of educational and healthcare buildings.
Milena Vitoulová and her husband Ladislav, who also worked at AT6 from 1970, eventually became independent and established their own architectural office Atelier V+V in 1991. After the Velvet Revolution, Milena Vitoulová was also active in the Architects' Association and later in the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA), where she represented the Ostrava region. In 1992, she became a member of the first elected leadership of ČKA and attended chamber meetings intermittently until 2013. Together with Miroslav Masák and Ladislav Lábus, she initiated the establishment of the accredited Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of VŠB-TUO, where she taught as an assistant professor in the field of building design from 2008 to 2014. With her contribution, the contribution organization City Studio of Spatial Planning and Architecture (MAPPA) was also established in Ostrava.
